Rebuild details and modifications
Body work
To ensure that all corrosion on the vehicle was eliminated and
that any effected panels were replaced, the following items were
removed from the vehicle:
- All exterior brightwork
- Lights
- Glass including front and rear windscreens
- The complete interior
- Front and rear wings
- Bonnet
- Boot
- Four doors
- Webasto sunroof
- Headlining
- Engine and all ancillaries
- Petrol tank and pipes
- Exhaust
- Front suspension, subframe and brakes.
- Rear axle subframe and springs.
Work carried out on body after investigation:
- Replacement front and rear inner wings with new panels.
- Replacement rear valence with new panel
- Replacement boot floor and chassis legs with new panels
- Replacement inner and outer ‘D’ posts with new panels
- Replacement inner and outer sills and jacking points on both sides with new panels
- ‘Reskining’ of all for doors with new panels
- Replacement of the boot lid with a new one
- Replacement of four wings with new panels
- The remaining body shell was then stripped to the bare metal to ensure the removal of surface rust, before being undercoated.
- Body then resprayed in Admiralty blue and Silver birch in ‘two pack’ paint
- Brightwork rechromed except rear bumper which was replaced with a new one
- New light units fitted
- New seals were fitted to both windscreens
- New seals were fitted to all doors, windows and the boot
- Underbody of the vehicle stripped and re undercoated.
- All cavities treated with cavity wax
- New number plate surrounds in chrome fitted along with number plates
- New stainless steel door mirrors fitted
- New aerial
- Coachlines painted to body sides and roof.
Mechanical work
Sub frame
- Stripped down the removed front subframe removing all suspension components
- Modified the subframe to accommodate the new ZF gearbox and then sandblast and paint with protective coating.
- Replaced suspension and steering components using new up rated mounting bushes, track rod ends, wheel bearings, new ball joints and new brakes discs and pads. Rebuilt front callipers.
- Applied cavity wax to inside sub frame.
- Fitted new 4.6 engine and ZF gearbox to subrame using new engine mountings.The ZF 4 speed automatic was manufactured with a custom made bell housing to ensure overall length was identical to the original.
- Custom made gear linkage to the gear selector manufactured.
- Fitted sub frame to car chassis.
Rear of Car
- Removed rear axle, prop shaft and suspension springs.
- Replaced springs with new uprated road springs.
- Replaced shock absorbers front and rear with new ‘Leda’ custom made adjustables.
- Modified a Jensen Interceptor rear axle to fit spring housings.
The axle will accommodate the extra power that the engine will
produce and also incorporates a limited slip differential and
disc brakes.
- Sand blasted and painted the axle with protective coating. And refitted to the vehicle.
- Fitted new brake master cylinder and servo.
- Rebuilt rear brake callipers with new pistons and seals.
- Both front and rear brakes were then connected to new copper brake pipes and flexihoses and an adjustable brake compensator was fitted between the front and rear to allow even braking forces.
Other work
- Custom-made gas flowed tubular manifold and stainless steel exhaust fitted.
- Original petrol tank replaced with 100 litre capacity type approved LPG Fuel tank.
- Custom made petrol fuel tank fabricated and fitted to boot utilising the original filler cap and piping.
- Radiator re-cored with high efficiency core and replaced with all new hoses and connectors to the engine.
- Heater matrix stripped and re built with high efficiency core.
- Transmission cooling radiator fitted in front of the radiator.
- Kenlowe 13’’ high capacity fan fitted in addition to mechanical fan.
- Custom made split rim 17’’ ‘superlite’ wheels fitted with centres painted in ‘Admiralty’ blue to match the car body. Wider tyres 255/55 Goodyear tyres were fitted to increase high-speed stability.
- Rear section of prop shaft modified to fit Jenson axle, new UJ’s fitted to shaft and balanced.
- Fuel injection pump and fuel filters installed under the vehicle with the relevant exhaust heat sheilds.
Electrical work
Loom replaced to accept;
- Remote central locking
- Thatcham 1 approved alarm system with immobiliser and anti car jacking/tilt facility.
- Satellite navigation with separate colour monitor.
- Pioneer head unit component speaker front and rear sub woofer and amplifiers.
- Full capacity fuel injection wiring for petrol and multipoint LPG systems.
- Uprated alternator fitted with duel batteries.
- New electronic horns fitted.
- All electrical devices checked for effectiveness and replaced where defective.
Interior work
- All leather items in the car including the seats were first degreased then re dyed and treated with hide food.
- Wooden trim was stripped back to bare wood and refinished in high impact lacquer.
- Door panels were stripped down, cleaned, reassembled and door pockets kick plates and any other material covered parts were recovered in new but original specification material.
- The ‘furflex’ door piping was renewed and refitted.
- The interior flooring was replaced with hand made Wilton navy blue carpets and matching over rugs.
- The headlining were replaced with grey soft touch material as were the sunblinds.
- The ‘Webasto’ sunroof was completely stripped and all mechanism wires were replaced before it was recovered externally with grey ‘everflex’ and internally to match the headlining.
- Centre tool tray was modified to allow the ‘hiding away’ of the satellite navigation monitor.
- The radio/CD player head unit was mounted behind the centre compartment door.
- New front and rear seatbelts were fitted.
